Pick up rescue Congo African Grey "Pudy"

This bird is in an empty nest situation. Kids are grown, mom is busy with her life, there is no one at home most of the day and the bird is board. Pudy is 11 years old. He comes with a little plucking around his neck and at his tail. He eats sunflower seeds and human food. He has an old injury on his left leg, It appears to me the leg was broken and never set properly. He does step up but will not allow me to touch him.
Update, November 5, 2011: Pudy is now called Jeffery. He steps up from the cage floor and is willing to come out of the cage immediately when the door is opened. He stands fine on perches, but cannot hold to the saddle on the dog. When the weather changes, he hurts and is slower to step up and is more irritable. He has been changed over completely to Pretty Bird pelletized food. He has stopped plucking. He allows me to pet his head feathers and loves to wake up easy on the couch with coffee in my hand and Jeffery picking at my bathrobe. He is quick to give kisses on my lips (even though I am still very wary and don't trust him completely.) It has been two months since I received a nip that never was a bite.
